SKILL BUILDERS is an organization specializing in the treatment and support of Autism and related developmental disorders. Our approach is comprehensive as we utilize a variety of methodologies such as, but not limited to Applied Behavioral Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Education and Play Therapy. Research has shown that the most appropriate education and intervention for children with Autism includes early and intensive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Our purpose is to provide individuals with the opportunity, tools and the support necessary to reach their greatest potential.
Our philosophy emphasizes a proactive approach that acknowledges each person as a unique individual with different needs and abilities. We value the importance of family and support their exceptional role as they advocate for their child. We recognize the need for collaboration and are committed to working cooperatively with various agencies, schools and professionals, all in the best interest of the individual child.

Play Groups
Small Group Play Skills for Children 5 to 7 years of age. Facilitated play group with emphasis on joint attention, functional and symbolic play skills, basic social skills and more importantly communication and cooperation all while having social fun with peers.
Social Skills Training Classes
Social Skills Training for Children and Teens. Students are grouped with developmentally appropriate peers based on age/grade and skill level. Being social requires "Social Thinking Skills". In small groups, students learn the skills necessary to think social and be more socially confident and socially successful. Lessons are delivered through an interactive approach supported by developmentally proven instruction. In addition, video taped sessions and play back allows students to acquire self awareness and self monitoring skills. All classes offer training, practice and social time.

Junior Staff Assistant (JSA)
"Qualified" Skill Builder middle and high school students and volunteers have the opportunity to mentor elementary school students in our social skills programs. Leadership and support is another way to encourage socialization and community. As a Junior Staff Assistant, students learn a higher level of social skills; Effective Communication Skills, Responsibility, Leadership, Engagement, Empathy and a Sense of Community and Pride. In addition, students can earn community service hours and employment training. Ask about how to be a JSA.
Parenting Classes and Support
Parenting a child with exceptional needs can be challenging, and at times overwhelming. Education and support is the key to helping you help your child. Learn how to support your child and sustain a healthy balance and lifestyle. See Support Groups for the calendar of meetings.
IEP Consultation and Planning
Educated and professional consultation that will prepare you with the tools you need to get your child's needs met in the school setting.
Program Presentations and Training
Learn why play and social skills are just as important as academic skills. Learn how to effectively teach play and social skills to the mild, moderate and severe populations. Our in-service programs focus on support delivery, ideal for para-professionals whom work one to one with students, special day class teachers and support staff.
SKILL BUILDERS also provides: individual and family counseling services, behavioral assessment, behavioral intervention plans and plan management, parent and sibling support groups, play therapy and special education support and advocacy.
